A bundle of interesting characters as the story reads across different time frames. A really great mystery book and the second novel I’ve read by the brilliant Laurence Cowley.

Description

Heir hunters fraudulently inherit a tumbledown timber mill, only to find three sets of skeletal remains. The story follows the history back through the 1800s, from Eastern Europe to present day, with an intriguing outcome.

This popular crime novel follows multiple storylines: a criminal investigation run by the police alongside the story of a couple in the midst of a midlife crisis. Jan, who is fed up with living and working in London, hatches a plan with her ‘Heir Hunter’ neighbour to inherit a rambling old property in the depths of Cumbria. But the tumbledown holds secrets, and three skeletal remains are discovered in its midst.

DCI Jerry Blake, who has been retired for some months and is now living happily at The Feathers Pub with his fiancé Gill, is still very much in touch with his pal, Detective Inspector Rob Wilton, his ex-detective sergeant. Together they have solved several serious cases over the last few years, and Rob still relies on Jerry’s ear and input. To help solve this murder mystery, Rob needs Jerry’s help.

What happened to the three skeletons, and why was the rambling property left to rot? What happened to the missing circa 160 acres of land? Will Jan be successful in her plan to obtain the tumbledown?

If you enjoy an investigation novel, murder mystery book, or crime thriller, look no further.
