Lesley Morrissey
A very human journey to enligh
Review date: 23rd September 2025

I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but found Fin's journey to enlightenment compelling. He's a flawed human being (aren't we all?) and his thoughts about all aspects of his life bring him to life. He's set his sights on becoming a Sannyasin and heads to India, but it's not as straightforward as he thought. His doubts, human responses to situations (and his mental frustration at them when he's trying to be a better person) and the influence of his past constantly nagging at his efforts to move forwards keep you completely engaged.

I particularly relate to the busy brain he suffers from when trying to meditate!

His enlightenment comes through the people he meets and the realisation that it's not all about him - until it is!

The Sannyasin
Spiritual journey novel — personal transformation, introspective fiction and enlightenment quest

Discover a powerful and thought-provoking spiritual journey book with The Sannyasin, a compelling story about one man’s search for meaning, peace, enlightenment and self-discovery. This evocative novel blends personal transformation, meditation practice, introspection and emotional healing as its protagonist confronts his past, questions his identity, and seeks a deeper life purpose.

About the Book:
Finlay Carter once seemed to have it all — a successful career as a surgeon, a loving family, and a life many would envy. But when unexpected personal struggles and a devastating family secret bring everything crashing down, Fin finds himself disconnected from life and craving something more. This leads him on a courageous and eye-opening journey to become a sannyasin — a spiritual seeker and renunciant — as he travels to India in pursuit of inner peace, meditation mastery and spiritual enlightenment. Along the way, he faces doubt, challenges, self-reflection, and the messy reality of human emotion, making this both a relatable and inspiring read for anyone on their own path of growth.
