What a tangled tale! But the twists and turns are well-presented and it keeps you engaged right to the end.

I liked some of the 'asides' as the seasoned officer tries to educate his younger assistant about London life. All while the various threads in the puzzle are slowly untangled. Great plot!

Some of the apparently innocent aren't and some of the seemingly guilty are not as guilty as they look!

King’s Ransom
Crime thriller & detective mystery novel — corruption, murder, police procedural suspense

Delve into a gritty and gripping crime thriller novel where corruption, murder and twisted mystery collide in a tense race to uncover truth behind a deadly conspiracy. King’s Ransom by Laurence Cowley is a cleverly plotted detective mystery and police procedural book that blends suspense, intrigue and engaging character work — perfect for fans of crime fiction, murder mysteries, whodunits and suspense thrillers.

About the Book:

“Every man is the architect of his own future,
…but the treacheries of ambition, never cease.”

Missing public money, corruption at every turn, a suggested suicide and a growing body count.
Jerry Blake, after a long, hard-working career, has semi-retired and settled in his adopted home in Cumbria. After receiving a call from Franklin James, the current mayor of London, he agrees to come back to work incognito with the help of an old colleague, DS Rob Witlon.

After a source reveals that dubious accounting is depleting project funds for London, the police commissioner is dismissed, and Jerry has to get to the bottom of the blatant corruption that appears to be the passport to untold, unearned wealth.
When his first day on the job takes him to investigate an apparent suicide, it soon becomes clear all is not as it seems.
With deaths rapidly popping up over the City, can Jerry get to the bottom of it all before more lives are lost?
