As well as using motor skills, colouring in is calming and therapeutic, especially if a child has no other outlet available. Why not encourage them to talk about the pictures that they are colouring?
By using the blank and lined pages at the back of the book, children are encouraged to write their own story and bring out their creativity, whether it is through words or pictures. Making it fun will help them gain confidence and self esteem. For readers with dyslexia, a large sans serif font has been used, the text is left aligned and printed on cream paper. Also, there are no words written in capital letters or italics.
