Review date: 10th January 2020

I have reached that time of life when you start to worry about the future work opportunities, so I expected this book to make me think and reflect. It definitely does create a framework to make you think about taking responsibility for steering your own career. It is written in a humorous and easy to absorb style and it makes you think about how you can make changes to other parts of your life to make more of it. Thoroughly recommend it.

A little gem amongst the self help books. I’ve read it back to back and still keep dipping in/out for reference. Also really love (so does my team) David’s other resource - notebook. Subscribe to his YouTube channel for regular nuggets of wisdom. Thanks so much!

I'm not big into self development books however the author brings great examples of why it's important and examples that I could easily relate to. We have recently invested in new business idea and this book/ author gave me the confidence to do so and it's right if we don't who will.
Highly recommend

Being The Best Version Of Your
Review date: 10th January 2020

Initially bought this for someone else who is just starting out in the workplace. However, this book is useful for anyone starting their employment journey; mid career or even those who are looking to make major changes or retire. David is very good at sharing funny, clever and sometimes emotional examples, all of which resounded with me. Great tips and exercises in each chapter to promote making time to reflect; engage with others; being present and ensuring you have the right skills to keep yourself relevant and employed. If you don't look after yourself, who will?

There are a lot of us who have been with the same employers for years (I have been with the same company for 26yrs) and it is so easy to become stuck in your ways and be apprehensive of the changing world around you. This book is a brilliant vision into how to make manage yourself and to take advantage of the changes around you. Excellent read and have already recommended the book to a number of colleagues and friends. Have known David for years and he has throughout my career been a guiding light always giving sound advice that has seen me develop both professionally and personally. Looking forward to the next one !!

Reader reviews and ratings:

There is no time like now to read a book like this. Life often throws us curve balls and Covid19 has done just that for most of us. Where I was always the one bringing in the income and paying the mortgage and bills suddenly now it's my sons who work in the NHS and a supermarket who have the most stable jobs. Thankfully I had already started to future-proof myself. and I am working in different virtual ways as an online coach and trainer.
This book is a valuable way to look at how you can take steps to make decisions about what you do right now and start preparing for the next steps towards your future in an uncertain world. How ready are you for change? What skills do you have that are transferable? Creativity, ideas and being curious are all areas to 'drive your own destiny', if you don't look after yourself who will? (chapter 5)
Chapter 7 Being on control of your well being - What really matters in life? An important chapter for any time in life.
A must-have read for everyone who wants to future proof their future...Highly recommend
