Reader reviews and ratings:

"This is an excellent book I was given by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) in 2002 written by Lesley Morrissey, "Grow Your Own Achievers" that focuses on a more pragmatic approach to recognising how our own negative attitudes and self-fulfilling prophecies operate amongst us as managers first, then, we can tackle negative attitudes of other staff team members due to its 'contagious' effects. Hence, Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 shows us how to develop a positive approach and the tools to maintain it.

Crucially, to practice those positive approaches on yourself until such time you have successfully got to where you don't have to think about how you do things and how you say things. The book elaborates that the team works better if you act as a 'Programmer' and support. Maybe you require more skills in this yourself, then you may need a mentor or partner to help you over this difficulty. We as humans focus on negatives and it is, hardly surprising that people 'infect' each other with negative 'vibes'. It's a challenge to reject the negative factors - those who learn the 'trick' will reflect it and others will notice!

Overall, I read this book from cover to cover in 2002 and it has been an excellent reference guide for me, in terms of improving my attitude, thoughts and helping others to think in a different different ways. Understanding on how and why Self-Fulfilling Prophecies operate.

Therefore, in the final analysis, as the author says: "straightforward advice on how to create a positive working environment and banish the fear of change" and how to get your management team from "trying their best to being the best!"
