After studying at Goldsmiths College, Mal enjoyed a successful career in IT, as a systems developer, business analyst, lecturer, training consultant and technical author. He was employed as a freelance professional by companies such as the Civil Aviation Authority, Lloyds, IBM and BP Oil.
Throughout his career, Mal was required to exercise his imagination, wit and powers of expression, in order to analyse and communicate complex ideas and concepts. These skills have spilled over into various forms of creative writing. He is a published poet and songwriter, and is also the co-author of a series of children’s stories. Mal’s latest offering, Canny Creatures (2015), is a collection of animal poems, beautifully illustrated, ‘for kids of all ages’.
He is interested in all kinds of writing, but particularly the shorter forms: poetry, radio and film scripts, short stories and spoofs. He has always been an eclectic reader, and has a keen interest in the cinema and live theatre.
As a lyricist, Mal has written many show songs with wife Wendy (see her author page), as well as the book and lyrics for a new musical, Da Capo.
In addition to his creative writing interests, Mal is also a natural musician with a gift for improvisation, and enjoys singing jazz on ‘Open Mic’ nights and at company events across London.
